Hi,
It was great to meet
some of the Chamber
Members at the AGM
in February and I
hope to meet the
rest over the next
few months. I would
like to congratulate
Sheldon Mulla for
being appointed as
the new President of
the Mareeba Chamber
of Commerce, and I
am looking to
working with both
him and the other
committee members.
Our mission is for
Mareeba to be a
strong, vibrant
community and we can
only do this if we
are actively working
with our members on
the topics relevant
to them.
Next week’s lunch
has a great line up
of speakers and we
will also be
launching our annual
publication –
Economic Snapshot.
It will be an
opportunity to
reflect on the past
twelve months, and
allow for some
reflection on the
way forward.
Regards
Kate Bertola

From the
President
Hello and
thank you
again to the
Chamber
members and
Executive
Committee
for the
opportunity
to take on
the
President's
role for the
next 12
months.
I am excited
by the opportunity and together with the
Executive Committee have already started
fulfilling
our mission
statement.
As stated at
our recent
chamber
luncheon, my
first
priority is
to establish
effective
communication
with the
chamber
members by
way of a
President
Report which
will provide
information
on what the
Executive
Committee
has been up
to and
report on
any outcomes
on local
issues and
events as
they become
available. |

Feel free to contact me

From the Chamber Desk
One of the
best parts
of my role
is to talk
to our
membership
base and
find out
what is
important to
them and
their
business.
Over the
past month I
have had the
opportunity
to talk to a
number of
members and
discuss what
they would
like us to
be focused
on.
Essentially
they can be
broken down
to three
things:
-
Advocating
on
behalf
of
members
on
issues
affecting
their
business
e.g.
proposed
Byrnes
Street
Redevelopment,
and the
National
Broadband
Network
(NBN)
Taskforce.

The Minister for

Minister Crean said that
“the allocation of
funding will be
competitive, merit-based
and only applications
that have the backing of
local Regional

(RDA) committees will be
considered.”
Key criteria for the

guidelines are:
>

economic and social
benefits;

Commitment to innovation
and building capacity in
local communities;
>Linking

The $1.4 billion
allocated to the Fund
includes $350 million
that the Government set
aside for disaster
relief in regional
