Hi,

It was great to meet some of the Chamber Members at the AGM in February and I hope to meet the rest over the next few months. I would like to congratulate Sheldon Mulla for being appointed as the new President of the Mareeba Chamber of Commerce, and I am looking to working with both him and the other committee members. Our mission is for Mareeba to be a strong, vibrant community and we can only do this if we are actively working with our members on the topics relevant to them.

Next week’s lunch has a great line up of speakers and we will also be launching our annual publication – Economic Snapshot. It will be an opportunity to reflect on the past twelve months, and allow for some reflection on the way forward.

Regards
Kate Bertola

TABLELAND REGIONAL COUNCIL

>> From the President

Hello and thank you again to the Chamber members and Executive Committee for the opportunity to take on the President's role for the next 12 months.

I am excited by the opportunity and together with the Executive Committee have already started fulfilling our mission statement. As stated at our recent chamber luncheon, my first priority is to establish effective communication with the chamber members by way of a President Report which will provide information on what the Executive Committee has been up to and report on any outcomes on local issues and events as they become available.

Sheldon Mulla
President

Feel free to contact me directly on 0409 889 928 should you wish to discuss any issue or provide suggestions on how we can improve the chamber.

Kind regards,

Sheldon Mulla
President Mareeba Chamber of Commerce

From the Chamber Desk

One of the best parts of my role is to talk to our membership base and find out what is important to them and their business. Over the past month I have had the opportunity to talk to a number of members and discuss what they would like us to be focused on. Essentially they can be broken down to three things:

  1. Advocating on behalf of members on issues affecting their business e.g. proposed Byrnes Street Redevelopment, and the National Broadband Network (NBN) Taskforce.

Kate Bertola
Executive Promotions Officer

  1. Providing members with direct access to the President and Committee Members at events like the monthly luncheons in order for effective two way communication.

  2. Providing members access to professional development courses and seminars – including topics on staff selection and recruitment, providing safe workplaces, financial management etc.

If you have any suggestions or feedback please let us know. We are here to be your advocates and greatly appreciate your input. We are also looking for good news stories from our members i.e. anything that your organisation has achieved. We would also love to hear of any initiative that your organisation is undertaking which the larger community benefits from, so start sending them through.

Let us all become active partners in strengthening the business community in the region and forge the way forward.

Kind regards,

Kate Bertola

Key criteria for the application funding guidelines are:

>Ability to leverage additional funding across government and the private sector.

The $1.4 billion allocated to the Fund includes $350 million that the Government set aside for disaster relief in regional areas. This disaster funding allocation will be assessed on the same criteria as the rest of the Fund.
