New Chamber Corporate Partner
Mareeba Chamber of Commerce is proud to launch another Corporate Partner. John and Wendy Morris are huge supporters of the chamber, and we look forward to having them on board".

The chamber will officially announce and launch Mt Emerald Wind Farm as their corporate partner at the August 5 lunch.

MT EMERALD WIND FARM

>> From the Chamber Desk

Our congratulations to Eliza Michael for being crowned this year’s Mareeba Rodeo Queen. Eliza has previously spoken at our Chamber luncheons and will be an asset to the Mareeba Rodeo Association as she carries out her duties. Congratulations too for Keir Tilse and Rachel Arancio for being crowned Rodeo Princess and Miss Popularity.

Patrick O’Neill and Lyn Wardlaw spoke about the current state of the Mareeba hospital at our July dinner event and highlighted the fact that the Mareeba community needs to come together and speak with one voice about the need for services to remain at the hospital. Recent publicity continues to drive speculation that a reduction in services is inevitable and so I encourage all of you to complete the survey that is in current circulation about your expectations on the level of service provided.

The Economic Forum is on this Friday and has proven to be extremely popular. Our exhibitor spaces are all full and our speakers are finalising their presentations, I am looking forward to spending the day with everyone. My thanks to Amy Phillips (Vice President and MC for the Forum) and Tracey Braes for all your hard work in preparation for the event – it is much appreciated. Thanks also to Jeanette Sturiale for your help in organising the Exhibitors – what a Showcase it will be!

Our next luncheon will be on Friday 5th August at the Mareeba RSL Club and our guest speaker is David Kempton, LNP candidate for Cook. This is your opportunity to meet David and gain an insight into his vision for the region and he is also happy to take questions from the floor. I hope you can join us as, I’m sure it will be informative.

Regards, Kate, Tracey and the Executive Committee
Mareeba Chamber of Commerce

PS - Book a 5-minute speaker spot at one of our Chamber lunches in 2011 here (members only).

Around the Ridges

Next week sees the start of the next phase of Tableland Regional Council’s Community Plan. Three Think Tank sessions will be held across the region and aims to focus on specific local, national and global drivers impacting on the Tablelands region over the next ten years. If you are interested in attending, please get in touch with Joy Wii joyw@trc.qld.gov.au.

Voting is now on for this year’s People’s Choice Awards in the Tropical Innovation Awards and it is a hard choice as all applicants are worthy of the award. Over 800 votes were lodged in the first week and organisers hope to beat last year’s record of 1300 votes. Get online now and check it out.

It’s great that the Atherton District Chamber of Commerce is having its official launch this Friday 29th July at The Lodge – Tinaroo Lake Resort. It will provide the opportunity for businesses in Atherton to speak with one voice, something that has been missing for a number of years. Some people may find it interesting that the Mareeba Chamber of Commerce has been supportive; however, it will provide the opportunity for all Chambers from across the region to work together and be advocates for the Tablelands business community.
